What do you want students to take away from your courses?
Although individual course objectives vary, my overall goal is to prepare students for the realities and rigor of professional nursing.
Why did you start teaching?
In my job as a nurse practitioner, I found precepting students very rewarding. This led me to pursue teaching nursing, first as a part-time clinical instructor and eventually as a full-time faculty member teaching both didactic and clinical courses.
What advice would you give to those considering this online program?
I would like students to know that the William Paterson University Department of Nursing prides itself in developing courses and programs that are relevant, well-organized, and encourage active learning and inter-professional collaboration.
What qualities make someone particularly successful in the area in which you teach?
Excellent organizational and time management skills. Astute verbal and written communication skills.
What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?
Preparing for the constantly changing workplace and increasing demands of technology and documentation.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
“A Prayer for Owen Meany” by John Irving.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know about you.
I believe that we must be the change you want to see in the world (Gandhi).
