Online Master of Arts in Teaching Programs

As a graduate of this online master’s, you will be able to:

• Use information on a learner’s strengths, interests, and needs gathered through research-based methods to design lessons that are appropriate to the learner’s different cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical development
• Establish high expectations for learners and demonstrate the ability to modify instruction and implement assistive tools and technology to address the specific learning differences and needs of all learners according to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards
• Analyze, reflect upon, and facilitate with supporting research a healthy, safe, organized, and productive learning environment that communicates and promotes respect for each learner ; reinforces classroom and school expectation, including HIB policies; is responsive and inclusive of diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives; teaches learners how to use technology in appropriate, safe, and effective ways; and provides opportunities for self-directed learning
• Design learning objectives, success criteria, and common learning opportunities in alignment with NJSLS and CCR standards that demonstrate accurate knowledge in major concepts, use of academic language, and tools of inquiry of the discipline
• Facilitate learner knowledge of academic content, critical-thinking, and inquiry of the discipline by designing learning experiences that stimulate prior knowledge, link new concepts to familiar ideas and experiences, and make connections to the real world
• Design instructional plans to develop a learner’s communication skills and academic language (vocabulary, syntax, and discourse) of the discipline
• Design assessments of mid-to-high level of cognitive demand that provide evidence of learner understanding of learning objectives
• Use technologies to analyze results from summative and/or formative assessments to evaluate the understanding, progress, and performance of the class as a whole as well as individual learners
• Design and communicate clear success criteria in accomplishing the learning objectives and engage learners to review and analyze their progress
• Design plans that use a variety of effectively sequenced, research-based instruction at an appropriate pace to support learning
• Differentiate facilitation strategies by process, product, or content to foster college and career readiness
• Use assessment data and evidence to reflect on instructional planning and teaching and modify teaching practice
• Analyze and interpret assessment evidence/data to draw conclusions on effectiveness and adapt instructional planning and teaching practices based on conclusions to improve learning
• Demonstrate support of the school mission, growth, and development as an educator and engage with educational professionals to contribute to a culture of high expectations where all students can learn
• Apply the major tenets of professional expectations (codes of ethics, relevant laws and policies, and professional standards) in professional decision-making and behavior
