This course covers the chemistry, biochemistry and plant anatomy aspects which will prepare the students to understand literature and to consider social, legal and commercial questions within the context of chemical principles.

This course will provide an overview of the economic implications of cannabis use and the effects of cannabis legalization. The course will discuss the trends in cannabis use among different population groups and explores the relationship between cannabis and other substances. It also discusses the effect of legalization on tax revenues and economic activities overall, along with additional discussions on several other related outcomes. The focus of the course is the United States economy. However, examples and case studies from other countries with lenient cannabis policies are included.

The use of cannabis raises many philosophical questions. As cannabis becomes legally available and more widely and culturally accepted, these questions become more urgent. This course considers the philosophical aspects of cannabis use. Cannabis has been used for purposes that are intoxicative, religious, artistic, medical, wellness, and spiritual. This course examines the ways these uses raise traditional philosophical questions about truth, meaning, and values such as goodness, justice, beauty, flourishing, and the sacred. It looks at how major ethical theories evaluate types of use. It examines the philosophies behind the cultures that have grown up around each type of use.

This course will provide an overview of cannabis and its implications on individual and public health.  The course will provide a brief overview of basic information on the cannabis plant, related health claims and health effects of cannabis use (including effects of THC and CBD).  The major focus of this course will be the examination of the evolving changes in medicinal and recreational cannabis policies across the U.S., and implications for public health and safety.  Students will explore the effects of cannabis on populations, including effects related to the workplace, public spaces, impaired driving, adolescent and youth use, among others.

This course examines cannabis from the perspectives of clinical psychology and communication disorders. Specifically, the course provides coverage of the following areas: historical context for cannabis use, the evolution of its use from ritual to rehabilitation and treatment, pharmacology, effects on physiological, psychological, communicative, and cognitive functions, and potential adverse effects. In addition, controversies and challenges to our current understanding will also be examined.
